How to tell the difference between universal beams and universal columns, which are both referred to as ‘I-section’ and ‘H-section’ is the UB depth being much greater than its own width so it’s very easy to see.
Just like the UC it is easy to work out what the total weight of a UC is by multiplying its total length in metres by its weight per metre.
Using the first measurement on the chart as an example;
• 127 x 76 UB 13
• 127 mm = depth (height)
• 76 mm = width
• 13 = weight per metre in kilograms.
These are most often used on;
The increased depth results in higher loading capabilities than UCs, however there is not always enough space to use a UB.
